Maldives Ports Limited managed to win the Club Maldives Cup for the second time in its history, final match of this tournament was played against Maldivian ( Island Aviation ) by 9-5 today.
Final match of this tournament was played on 27th of May 2013, in the half mini foot ball ground.
Many of the employee’s from various departments, including division heads, department heads were present to watch the match and to support our team. Our CEO, Mr. Mohamed Latheef was present at the ground to cheer up our team.
Ahmed Vishal ( Andu ) [jersey No: 6] scored 03 goals , Ali Maaish ( Mattu ) [jersey No 10] scored 03 goals , Ali Ashfaq ( Dhagey ) [jersey No:7] the National Team player and National and Asia’s number one player scored 03 goals for the MPL team in this final match.
“Applauses and words appreciation from the supporters gave our team the spirit to win the game.” said Mr. Ibrahim Waheed, MPL futsul Team Manager. “Today was a remarkable day in the MPL sport history, because our Team won the final match for the second time in history.” Said, Ms. Raziyya Moosa, Manager Cargo operation department and newly elected president for MPL sports and recreation club.
Training Program on Role of People Manager, Leadership and Motivation was conducted from 20th May 2013 to 23rd May 2013 at Custom Meeting Room. These programs were organized by the Port Training Centre of Maldives Ports limited with the collaboration of CWG Company of Singapore. This program was conducted with an immense support from our CEO, Mr. Mohamed Latheef. This program was well organized by the hard work of Head of Port Training Centre, Ms. Neesha Khaleel and her TEAM. Our CEO is person who always looks for the employee development aspect in acquiring the skills and training required to perform the job. Mr. Mohamed Latheef is a person with good leadership traits and always believes that employee can be motivated and maintain by giving all required assistance and trainings to achieve the organizational goals and objectives.
In the “Role of People Manager” training program which was focused for the Senior Management Staff, which includes Department heads, Division Heads and managerial levels staff from various departments and also participants form Maldives Customs Services took part in this program. Program content of the training is mainly associated in managing, appraise and reward the employee performance to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization.
In the “Leadership and Motivation” training Program which was focused for the staff in the managerial positions and those who are in the supervisory level. Program content of this training is mainly associated on how to use various motivational strategies and leadership skills to monitor and guide the employee performance. It also focused on ways to reduce cost in day to day operational works and to gain the best outcome by utilizing the optimum level of resources.
Training Provider for these programs was CWG Singapore; and Mr. Cidi Wee was the trainer for these trainings. Mr. Cidi Wee is an accredited trainer in Singapore, with years of experience in training peoples across the globe.
At the concluding ceremony of this training program was held at Custom Building conference Hall, CEO, Mr. Mohamed Latheef addressed the gathering and in his speech, CEO, advice all the training participants to implement the knowledge and information which they acquired throughout the training and work with best interest to drive the company to its peak. CEO also thanks the trainer, Mr. Cidi Wee for the hard work he has put in, to make this program a successful. And he was awarded with the plaque of appreciation; this plaque of appreciation was handed over by the head of corporate division Mr. Mohamed Hashim and by the Acting Head of Human Resource Department Ms. Fazly Fauzy in the presence of CEO and the training participants.
At this gathering, a souvenir was awarded to Mr. Cidi Wee on behalf of all the training participants of the two training programs. Training participants of these programs thanks Mr. Cidi Wee for his hard work to make the training program a successful event and also thank the Management and especially our CEO, Mr. Mohamed for the hard work initiated for providing training opportunity for the staff.
A training program on Health and Safety at work environment was conducted by the Port Training Center of Maldives Ports Limited on request of Hulhumale’ Development Corporation for their staffs on 19-20th April 2013.
This was the initial program which was conducted for staffs other than the MPL. This was a great milestone achieved in the history of Port Training Centre and PTC aspires to carry such training programs throughout Maldives.
Main focus of the programs is to make a broad spectrum on national and regional levels to formulate the approaches to develop and implement the safety standards and various strategies for safe working environment. This program focused on discussions and idea generation to ensure that the objectives of this training is been met, and also throughout the training great emphasis was placed upon the workplace safety and security measure to be undertaken and aware the participants on their roles as an individual and also in the organizational level.
According to the lectures who have lectured the sessions, “ 23 members took part in this training program and these members had immense contribution to support the training sessions, and were interested in learning more about the role each individual can take in making safe and secure working place”.
Certificate awarding ceremony was successfully held on 08th of April 2013. In this ceremony certificates was awarded to the participants who have successfully completed various training programs which were conducted at Port Training Centre. It was held at Customs building in Meerubahuru Maalam. Our CEO, Mr. Mohamed Latheef and other executives of the company took part in this ceremony former Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited and current permanent secretary of Ministry of Finance and Treasury Mr. Ismail Shafeeq was as the guest of honur of this ceremony.
In this awarding ceremony, 119 participants achieved certificates, among the total, 82 participants received the certificates for successfully completed Port Operation, and 7 participants were awarded certificates for the Information Technology training and 30 participants were awarded with certificates for the completion of Eco Driving.
After congratulatory addresses, as a keynote speaker General Manager, Mr. Mohammed Hashim addressed the gathering, in his speech he took this opportunity to address the gathering how the programs were conducted at glance. He also conveyed his heartfelt word of appreciation to those participants who had completed the course and congratulated.
At this meeting, MPL, CEO Mr. Mohamed latheef addressed the gathering, as to open his speech he stressed the importance of having education and to have educated and professional staffs working under the umbrella of an organization. In his speech, he highlighted the importance and the need of education in the corporate world. He also stressed the importance of having a training institute or a centre and proper utilization of its recourses as MPL is doing. He concluded his speech by congratulating all the participants of the courses and the people behind the scenes in creating and contributing to the training center.
A special event was held at Kudakudhinge HIya K. Villingili on 01st April 2013. This event was held to mark the International Women’s day in MPL. This was a voluntary event initiated by the woman staffs of Maldives Ports Limited. The donation was handed over to the management of Kudakudhinge Hiya by Ms. Fazly Fauzy, the Acting head of Human Resource Department, MPL. Management and staffs of MPL donated around MVR 22,000.00.worth of items which they require for the functioning of Kudakudhinge Hiya.
At this gathering, an official from Kudakudhinge Hiya addressed the participants, in his speech he highlighted the interest shown by the Management and the staff of MPL towards its corporate social responsibility, and he conveyed his sincere gratitude to the management and staff of MPL.
Acting head of Human Resource department Ms. Fazly Fauzy addressed the gathering by notifying that the children in the Kudakudhinge Hiya is a part of our society and they need to be looked after with great care, and all of us should try to assist them in all what they required. And highlighted that, staff and management of MPL will always accept those children who are in need with great care, and staffs of MPL will always make the best of it to assist such children. She added on the importance of giving such a donation and helping the people who are in great need from the society. And also she highlighted that the Kudakudhinge Hiya is doing a great job in the society and its highly accepted and reputed by the society and thank the management and staff of Kudakudhinge Hiyaa.

The Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, has proceed, an event held on Sunday, March 31, to inauguration the landing craft schedule operations to nearby destinations. The service is first of its kind, where MPL provides landing craft commercial operations to Hulhumale’- Thilafushi and nearby islands.
“…I consider the initiative of the current management especially the CEO and its staffs in commencing the logistic service to the islands. The operation would benefits the fellow citizens, of Maldives and also will be a driving factor of economic growth. I’m sure that the customers would benefit in many ways and MPL will always look for better ways of improving logistic service to the Maldives “declared the Minister, in the presence of Government officials and representatives of media. And also Minister took the opportunity to convey his sincere gratitude to all the Management and staff of MPL.”
As to make this historic event, Mr. Mohammed Latheef, CEO of MPL stated that “today we inaugurate with pleasure “Greater Male’ Logistic Service”. The service that we introduced will benefit the customers and citizens of our fellow Maldivian in many ways. As we look into the combination of the current board of directors, we can see that the members are highly experience in the port industry, and their contribution would be immense. I believe that this would be great opportunity for the company to enhance the productivity level of the company by means of their contribution in decision making and various other means. Finally, I conclude my speech by saying that this service will be introduced to the all the islands in a near future”.
MPL Senior Executives, Chairman and great numbers of staffs took part in the great function that was held in the North Port area.
MPL took part in a walk event organized by the scout association of Maldives and the Ministry of Housing Environment which was aimed to mark the World Earth Hour 2013. This special event was held in the main street of greater Male’ City and as a joined effort this event was also held in various atolls in Maldives. This event started from started from Maafaiy Thakurufaanu Magu (in South west Harbour) in Maafannu, the route continued on the main street of Male’ Majeedhee Magu and finished at South east point of Male’ which is locally known as “ Raalhu Gandu Sarahadhu” or near Tsunami monument at Ameenee Magu.
Earth Hour walk was aimed at creating awareness among the society and to highlight the importance of saving our environment on global warming and alarming the society. During this walk MPL staffs were carrying banners depicting slogans representative of the day called for every one’s cooperation and its importance.
“It makes so much sense that the MPL staffs are leading the way towards a sustainable future. We Maldivians deserve to take part in this event or who else would, climate change is more effecting to Maldives then the rest of the world,’’ said Ali Ahmed , General Manager of MPL.
Earth Hour is an annual international event organized by WWF (World Wildlife Fund of Australia), this event was marked held on 23rd March 2013, Saturday, that asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
CEO Mr. Mohamed Latheef and Deputy CEO Mr. Hussain Naeem attended International Association of ports & harbours(IAPH) Asia Oceania regional meeting held at Abu Dhabi on 18th of March 2013. The meeting was attended by member countries of the region.
They also participated in the World Ports & trade Summit 2013 held in Abu Dhabi from 19th to 20th.
Key industry officials in the global arena and members of the International Association of ports & harbours(IAPH) –in strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) to discuss the changing dynamics of seaborne trade development.
The 2 day program on “Emotional Excellence (EE) for Communication & Relationship Building” that was conducted in the Port Training Centre of Maldives Ports Limited was concluded yesterday, 09th of Febrauary 2013.
The program focused on personal development through self – awareness, managing distress, and the use of skills such as Empathy and Interpersonal Skills. Also it focused on an important communication skill – managing criticism. This very important program, very much related to the workplace was conducted by Mr. Christopher Raj Anthony; a Registered Counsellor with the Malaysian Board of Counsellors.
Chief Executive Officer of MPL Mr. Mahdhee Imaad, awarded the certificates to the participants who successfully completed the program. Addressing to the participants CEO Mr. Imad, said that he expects the staffs to utilize the knowledge gained, to think positively, working to increase our efficiency, leading the company to achieve its objectives, and finally the company to prosper. Also, he expressed the interest in the program, and assured that it will be conducted for some more times in near future.
The sessions started, Thursday and Saturday morning at 08:30am, and continued till 05:00pm, with breaks. Thirty staffs of middle management level, and customer related officers selected from different Departments participated in the program.

A special ceremony to conclude the UNCTAD TrainForTrade, Port Training Programme; English-Speaking network, Coaching Workshop was held yesterday.
The Coaching Workshop was organized by UNCTAD TrainForTrade in cooperation with the Maldives ports Limited, with the support of Irish Aid. The main aim of this workshop was to train focal points, and core instructors of the Port Training Programme from the member countries. However, also, to promote inter-regional cooperation and programme sustainability, instructors and/or focal points from the member countries participated as jury members (marking the first exchange of jury members in the English-speaking network) in the panel judging the final dissertations and their presentations of the 2nd cycle of trainees who completed the UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Training Programme(PTP) conducted in MPL. Classes of the Coaching Workshop was carried out at the seminar room of Maldives Customs Service from 2nd to 4th December, while working as juries in the dissertation panel was carried out in the final two days at Maldives Ports Limited on 5th and 6th of December 2012.
Fourteen participants from 3 member countries (Ghana, Tanzania, and Maldives) of the English-speaking network of the TrainForTrade Port Training Programme, were selected for this Coaching Workshop.
